End of First Quarter Letter

First Quarter Letter

Williamsburg Elementary School Families:

Enclosed you will find your child’s report card for the 1st academic quarter. We have also included information from STAR assessments we administer three times over the course of the school year: once in the Fall prior to September 30th, once during Winter (within the final 15 instructional days before Winter break), and once in the Spring (after we return from Spring break). The STAR assessments help us measure student progress and growth over the course of the school year in Reading and Math. These assessments also provide other valuable information such as students’ instructional reading levels and how they are performing compared to other students nationally in the same grade-level. We use this information to inform our instructional planning as part of our efforts to meet all students’ needs. The enclosed report shows how your child scored on the assessments that were given prior to September 30th. We will provide updated reports after each administration of the STAR assessments. In the area of Reading, students in grades K-5 take the STAR Early Literacy or Reading assessment. For Math, students in grades 1-5 take the STAR Math assessment.

If your K-3 student was identified as a student reading below grade-level, you previously received a notification letter that informed you that your student would be placed on a Reading Improvement and Monitoring Plan (RIMP). We are prioritizing conference time for families who have a student on a RIMP in our effort to meet face-to-face with every parent who has a child not yet reading at grade-level. Conferences will be held on Thursday, October 25th and Monday, October 29th from 4:30-7:30pm.

I strongly encourage you to schedule a conference with your child’s teacher(s). Our teachers will correspond with you in the coming days if they haven’t already done so and help you schedule a conference time. We want to work with you to help your child fulfill their potential! Please let us know how we can help.

Prior to the concert, our PTA will again host a spaghetti dinner fundraiser at the middle/high. In addition to the dinner and concert, there will be an Art show displaying the artwork of WES students. Our PTA will also have many activities for families to enjoy. Look for information regarding this event to be sent home as the date approaches.

School fees can be paid by making four quarterly payments of $10.00 per student. Families that enroll in our quarterly plan will receive student report cards. Also, lunch balances must be paid in full prior for students to receive a report card.
